
Angie Spencer is a distinguished Isshinryu karate master and the Chief Instructor and owner of Spencer’s Isshinryu Karate in Fredericksburg, VA. She began her martial arts journey in 1988 through a women’s self-defense course, earning her black belt (Shodan) in 1993 from Grand Master Angi Uezu after demonstrating her skills before a panel of senior masters.
In 1997, Angie opened her own dojo after nearly a decade of teaching at the Rappahannock YMCA. A student of Master John Devine since 1995, she continued advancing in rank and knowledge—earning her Hachi-Dan (Eighth Degree Black Belt) in October 2025 during a visit to Okinawa.
Throughout her career, Angie has excelled in competition, securing titles such as Female Weapons Grand Champion and Female Kata Grand Champion at OIKKA tournaments, and has competed nationally in AAU and USAKF events.
Her contributions to the martial arts community were recognized when she was inducted into the Isshinryu Hall of Fame in 2022.
In addition to her martial arts achievements, Angie holds a Business Administration degree from Mary Washington College. She is deeply committed to helping students develop discipline, confidence, fitness, self-defense, and lasting friendships through Isshinryu karate.
